New build Intratuin, Venlo (the Netherlands) 2013
For many years Intratuin Venlo stood alone in the now newly developed area bordering the towns of Tegelen and Venlo, just off the A73 and A74 motorways towards Germany. The old garden center was completely demolished and an entirely new modern Intratuin, a McDonald's and a Karwei DIY opened in Venlo.
The new 'city garden center' measures almost 5,000 m² and is 14 meters in height, spread over two floors with lots of glass and greenery. Various parts of the facade are clad with plants. The roof is entirely covered with polycarbonate sheets and the steel construction is powder coated in a gray-brown color. This creates an ideal retail environment with a modern yet warm atmosphere.
A remarkable feature at Intratuin Venlo is the relatively large upper floor that covers the greater part of the heated greenhouse. This floor accommodates a large restaurant/garden café that focuses on healthy food, there's a play area for the children and ample retail space for season-related decorations and other articles.
A striking feature is the large turnstile in the middle of the facade which serves as an entrance to the garden center. From there, customers are able to choose where they want to go: the unheated greenhouse or to the garden café at the of top the stairs in the heated greenhouse.
