Self-sufficient living on the inner dune edge
02 MAY 2019
Breddels Architecten made the design for this beautiful autarkic house. The house is located on the inner dune edge in Egmond aan den Hoef and has a beautiful view of the dunes and the bulb fields on the dune edge.
In order to spare the dune landscape as much as possible, part of the housing program has been housed in the basement, so that a relatively small volume can be seen at ground level.
The materials and natural colors used are also attuned to the dune environment, a masonry plinth with a standing wooden cladding and special ceramic slates from England as the roof covering and partly as the facade cladding.
The design and installation are self-sufficient, meaning that the house is self-sufficient or prepared for it where possible. A heat pump, 50m2 solar panels and filtered spring water are used. Provisions have also been made to make it easy to install batteries for energy storage in the future.
The use of acoustic ceilings and clay plaster creates a pleasant indoor climate. Loam plaster is a plaster of loam and clay and has an extra moisture and heat regulating function.
The floors are finished with a bamboo parquet, a sustainable and fast-growing material.
